Crystal pieces and Crystal lamps are naturally formed and carefully extracted; however, they often can have imperfections, inclusions, druzy pockets, what appear to be cracks or roughness, and can have variations in color.  This is to be expected with authentic, natural real crystals and gemstones.  While these may appear to be “imperfections” they are not.  Each of our crystals and gemstones are one of a kind, have a unique story and special character.  We appreciate the difference in each one of our special pieces.  We hand select each of our pieces for you and stand by their quality and authenticity and hope you too appreciate their uniqueness!

Apatite is a common phosphate mineral that is found in igneous sedimentary and metamorphic rock all over the world.  Although it is found in various deposits worldwide, the main sources of apatite are Brazil, Madagascar, and Mexico.  Apatite comes in many colors including yellow, blue, green, gray, white, purple, red-brown, and violet.  It is a breath of fresh air for anyone who feels they are unheard, in a creative slump, and confused or unsure of what the next steps in life should be.    

History

Apatite was given its name by a German geologist by the name of Abraham Gottlob Werner in 1786.  The name is derived from the Greek word “apate”, which means to deceive.  In Greek mythology the goddess Apate was one of the evil spirits released from Pandora’s box and her persona was comprised of deception and dishonesty.  This would explain more about how the name Apatite came about.  She was the true embodiment of deceit.  Apatite is often easily mistaken with other stones, such as beryl, tourmaline, or topaz, which implies it can “deceive” our eyes with its resemblance to other well-known gemstones.

Apatite is an amazing stone to be worn or placed in a sacred space in order to be a tool to set intentions and embrace its soothing and creative gentle energies.

As apatite is a more recently identified stone, there is not a lot of documented history on it.  Although it is thought this stone has a rich history, due to its composition not being known and established until the end of the 18th century, its story is more likely to have been lost and confused with stones with similar likenesses.

Proper Care

As apatite is a more fragile stone, it is very sensitive to chemicals, abrasives, heat, acids and ammonia.  To cleanse, use room temperature tap water and mild soap with a soft cloth to not damage or scratch the surface.  You do not want to ruin the beautiful luster of the gemstone. 

To charge, place in/on a selenite plate or bowl or place in the light of the full moon.  Selenite will also keep your crystal cleansed spiritually, and you may also use proper smudging techniques.
