Dubbed “The Love Stone”, Rose quartz gets its name from its delicate pink color. The spectrum of color can range from very light to a medium dark rose. The color is attributed to microscopic inclusions of a pink variety of the mineral dumortierite. The rose variety of quartz can be found in all areas of the world but is most commonly found in the United States, South Africa, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Madagascar and India.
History
Rose quartz dates back to early Mesopotamia around 7000 B.C., where it was discovered and used in bead making. The Assyrians and the Romans were the first to regularly use the stone in jewelry and both believed in the magical powers of the stone. Rose quartz was used in Ancient Rome to signify ownership and women in Ancient Rome used face masks adorned with Rose quartz to help clear the skin.
