Rhodonite Description

Rhodonite Description

Also known as the “Stone of Compassion” or “Rescue Stone”, rhodonite is a manganese inosilicate with a rose-red color.  Derived from the Ancient Greek word “Rhodon”, which means rose, the crystal gets its color from the manganese element.  While protected underground, Rhodonite remains pink or red, but the natural weathering of outside elements will oxidize the mineral turning it black. This mineral can be translucent to opaque and has a perfect, prismatic cleavage.  Like most pink or red stones, Rhodonite is closely tied to the heart, love, and compassion.  Rhodonite is the best healing stone for anyone suffering from trauma or heartbreak and looking to find love again.  This stone will push us to love ourselves and teach us to throw ourselves into love so that we can love at our greatest.

Rhodonite also bolsters our feelings of forgiveness and compassion.  The crystal clears our mind helping us to view all sides of any issues, allowing us to better understand others.  This in turn cools our emotions making it easier to forgive.  In the same manner, Rhodonite helps those suffering from trauma by comforting us during recent traumas.  For earlier past traumas, the crystal opens the mind and shows us how we are still affected by the trauma so we can diagnose and treat our pains while being comforted by the stone.

History

Concerning most of the mineral world, Rhodonite is a fairly new stone.  First discovered in 1790 around the Ural Mountains of Russia, this stone has been uncovered in many areas of the world since, including India, South Africa, Australia, Madagascar, Sweden, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, and the United States.  This mineral was a favorite stone of the Russian czars and a traditional gift for royalty.  The banded rhodonite was discovered in Argentina in the 1930s and shortly thereafter, there was a large boom of popularity for the stone.  This variety of banded Rhodonite has been called “Inca Rose”.

Proper Care

Rhodonite is easiest to clean with some soapy water and a soft cloth but can also be cleaned using a stream of water monthly to release old energies.  This forgiveness stone should be cleansed periodically to wash away old traumas introducing joyful energy to the stone.  Rhodonite can also be charged and infused with energy by keeping it in proximity with Amethyst or Selenite, or by placing it in the bright sunlight or full moonlight.  To get the maximum results, all charging should have a minimum duration of four hours
