Unakite Description

Unakite Description

Named after the mountains from which it was discovered, Unakite is a truly mystical and magical stone.  It is known as the “Stone of Vision” or the “Epidote Stone”.  It is primarily made up of a divine combination of green epidote, feldspar, and pink orthoclase which gives the stone its beautiful hues of opaque pink and green.  It has a patchy, moss-like appearance and is found in the deformed convergent plate boundaries where deeply formed granite have been metamorphosed and exposed by weathering and erosion.  Not only is Unakite found in the U.S. but also deposits are found in Brazil, China, Sierra Leone and South Africa.

The gorgeous patterns of Unakite, its durability, and affordability make it a “go to” for architecture and an ideal stone for use in jewelry and various ornamental functions.  Its most prominent use in architecture is in the trimming on the front steps of the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C.

Unakite is said to have the powers to open portals to heavenly worlds, which assists us in accessing our spirit guides and other worldly messengers.  It allows us the chance to peer into the spiritual realms beyond our mind’s comprehension.  When we are able to access our subconscious mind, and attune to spirit and the Universe, we are then able to find our true purpose, destiny and journey in this life.  Unakite is able to achieve these mystical gifts due to its delicate vibration, and its ability to bring together one’s spirituality and emotions.  It is able to allow its owner to look inward and truly face themselves and address the energy blockages linked to the past.  These blockages don’t always present themselves to us without assistance.  Unakite has the ability to assist us in accessing our subconscious and allow those blockages to then gradually be removed.

History

Unakite was discovered in 1874 by Frank Bradley in the Unakas mountains in Western North Carolina/East Tennessee hence its name.  It can also be found surrounding Lake Superior due to an ancient glacial shift.  It has also been unearthed in river valleys after having been whisked down the mountains.
